Beauty treatments have come a very long way. Today, there’s an injectable treatment for just about any aesthetic concern you might have. Wrinkles or fine lines? Try Botox or a number of different fillers. Longing for lips with more fullness? Try Juvederm. Noticing extra chin fat? You guessed it, there’s a treatment for that too! In April 2015, the FDA announced that it had approved the injectable, Kybella, for treating the stubborn fat deposits below the chin commonly referred to as the double chin. Those fat deposits are difficult, if not impossible, to treat with diet and exercise alone since it’s often caused by genetics, rapid weight gain. Traditionally, surgical procedures like neck lifts and neck liposuction were the only option. Today, however, Kybella is a great solution for patients who want to avoid surgery.

What is Kybella?

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule found in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat cells. When injected into the fat below your chin, the cells are destroyed and can no longer accumulate fat. While itgoes to work right away, it does typically take two to three weeks to see results.

What does Kybella cost?

The price of Kybella treatments are entirely dependent on the number of treatments and vials that are needed to get the optimum results. At AOB, we find out our patients typically need one treatment with two vials per treatment, although the number of treatments may vary. We charge $599 for each syringe of Kybella, which means that for two treatments with two syringes you can expect to pay $1200. While we realize that that sounds high, it’s important to consider that the results are permanent. This means that once you’ve achieved your goals you’ll never have to worry about the submental fullness returning. It’s also important to keep in mind the cost, recovery and downtime associated with other surgical treatments. Kybella is a 30-minute treatment that you could squeeze in on your lunch break.

The Value of Kybella Treatments

According to a survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 68% of people said they are bothered by their double chin. ASDS also discovered that people are just as bothered by extra fat under their chin as they are by wrinkles around their eyes. Unfortunately, once submental fullness has occurred, it’s very resistant to diet and exercise and often results in a drop in confidence. For clients who are tired of living with a double chin and want an effective, noninvasive solution for achieving a defined jaw, Kybella is a permanent solution! Check out the results that some patients have had with Kybella. This woman received a total of three treatments and weighed 135 pounds both before and after. This woman received a total of four treatments and weighed 135 in her before picture and 140 when the after photos were taken. Though the treatments are very safe, the greatest risks are actually associated with the skill of the person administering the injections. A skilled injector, however, will be able to minimize, if not eliminate, any risks. Here at AOB Med Spa, we pride ourselves on having the highest trained staff and the best client experience in the Denver area. The injectors who perform the service are professionally trained medical staff who have extensive training and experience. If you decide to come to AOB Med Spa, you will receive your injections from Sarah Dornik, RN. Sarah is a licensed Registered Nurse with 12 years of experience. She has completed intensive training for Cosmetic Injectables and is a graduate of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.

How does the price compare to liposuction?

While Kybella treatments are pricey, they are still cheaper (and much less invasive) than the more traditional treatment of neck liposuction. With liposuction, you will encounter expenses for anesthesia, the operating room and any advanced technology they utilize to complete the procedure. Kybella treatments normallytake under 30 minutes and you can return to normal activity with minimaldown time(and we will do all we can to ensure your comfort while you are with us)! And then there is your recovery time to consider! While you will experience swelling in the 20-28 hours following your injections, the swelling from Kybella will have largely passed by 48 hours after the procedure. You can anticipate that if you are treated on a Thursday or Friday you will be back to work on Monday. This is a far cry from your recovery time with liposuction. After surgery patients typically can’t return to daily activities, including work, for two weeks.
