What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-chemical exfoliation treatment that uses micro-crystals to buff away the top layer of the skin and its dead, dry skin cells. The treatment helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, light acne scarring, superficial pigmentation and uneven skin tone, leaving patients with healthier, glowing skin!
There is zero downtime associated with microdermabrasion and it can be done over a lunch hour.
How does it work?
A delicate hand device is used to propel micro-crystals onto the skin, creating a sandblasting effect. The crystals are then vacuumed off along with the dead skin cells to reveal a more even skin tone.
What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?
There are a number of great benefits that you can receive from this simple anti-aging treatment. It is commonly used to treat light scarring, uneven skin tone and sun damage. It can also help improve the appearance of pores, reduce hyperpigmentation, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As a whole, it’s designed to leave you with glowing skin and a refreshed appearance.
How many treatments are required?
There is no set number of treatments that are required. You’ll see results even after a single treatment. However, the number recommended will vary depending on your specific goals. You will need to be seen by a skin care professional who can make a recommendation for the number of treatments you should receive.
Are microdermabrasion treatments safe?
Extremely safe! Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that comes with very few risks. In fact, when performed by an experienced aesthetician or dermatologist, it’s one of the safest cosmetic procedures available today.
Are there any side effects?
Like any cosmetic treatment, there is a small risk for side effects, although for this particular treatment they are minimal. Some of the more common side effects include redness, sensitivity, small skin abrasions or eye-skin bruising.
Is the treatment painful?
While some patients do report some discomfort around the eyes during treatment, microdermabrasion is a relatively painless procedure.
Is there any down time after treatments?
There isn’t any downtime. However, you should try to avoid sun exposure after your treatment as newly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun exposure. If you absolutely cannot avoid the sun, you should wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
How soon will I see results?
One of the best things about microdermabrasion treatments is that results are typically seen right away. Most patients notice immediate improvements in color, tone and texture.
Who are good candidates for microdermabrasion?
Treatments are appropriate for most skin types; even people with sensitive skin. Microdermabrasion is not an appropriate treatment for active acne.
