How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal destroys hair follicles using a laser intense pulsed light (IPL) device. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, damaging it and impairing future growth. The dead hair typically falls out 10-14 days after treatment. While almost everyone is a candidate for laser hair removal, the ideal client has light skin and dark hair.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair enters the growth cycle at different times and since the laser works by targeting hairs in the active growth cycle at the time of treatment, it will be necessary to have several treatments to destroy all of the follicles. Patients must shave prior to treatment. They also cannot be treated effectively if the follicle hasn’t fully grown in. Most people require between five and eight treatments in total, depending on the area being treated, and treatments should be administered four to six weeks apart. If the patient gets off track and misses a month, the growth and effectiveness of the treatments will be impacted.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Yes, but it is worth it. A few seconds of pain for hair free skin!
Are there any side effects?
The side effects associated with laser hair removal are minimal. The most common side effect is slight reddening that typically goes away within a few hours to a few days, maximum.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
While many believe that laser hair removal is a permanent solution, this form of treatment is only designed for permanent hair reduction, not removal. For this reason, patients should expect to see some regrowth. Most typically experience a 10-25% reduction in hair growth with each treatment and at the end of their treatments studies have shown that many patients achieve permanent hair reduction of up to 90%. The hair that does come back returns lighter and softer than before. You may notice regrowth in certain areas, such as the chin, underarms, face, or bikini area. This happens because hormones trigger dormant follicles into active hair growth. Many patients return once or twice each year for a touch up sessions.
Do I need to grow my hair out before the treatment?
No, quite the opposite! Unlike waxing and shaving that require you go grow the hair out before you can use the method of treatment, we actually recommend that you shave the area prior to treatment.
How long will treatments take?
The length of time the treatment will take is entirely dependent upon the area being treated. For smaller areas you can anticipate that treatments will take 10-15 minutes and for larger areas you can anticipate being there for 25 minutes or longer. We also recommend coming in every four to six weeks for best results.
Is it safe?
While the idea of removing hair with a laser may sound intimidating, the truth is that laser hair removal is extremely safe and our staff is both certified and experienced to ensure you have a great experience and achieve the best possible results.
How long will it take to see results?
You may notice that the hair starts fallowing out 10-14 days after your treatment. However, it will take anywhere from four to six treatments to see hair reduction up to 85-90%.
Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal?
Since laser hair removal targets the dark pigment in the hair follicles, darker hair and lighter skin responds best to laser hair removal. Light-colored hair is less responsive to laser treatments. If you have darker skin you may not have the same level success with treatments; however, anyone who has some pigmentation is a candidate for laser hair removal. It is best to avoid tanning or sunless tanners for 10-14 days prior to treatment.
Can any area be treated?
Laser hair removal can be performed on just about any part of the body. Women commonly receive treatments on the bikini area, legs, arms, upper lip, chin and underarms. Men commonly have hair removed from the stomach, chest, shoulders and back.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
Our prices vary according to the area you’re treating. However, to get the best possible price, we recommend purchasing a package of treatments up front since you will need to receive multiple treatments to achieve the best possible results.
