  • Peel to Reveal with a HydraFacial

The following blog post was written by Catherine Moede, an AOB home office team member and Denver transplant who spends countless hours outside. She enjoys running, mountain climbing and playing rugby with Black Ice Rugby here in Denver.  Catherine has been getting a series of chemical peels to help correct some of her sun damage and will writing about her experience at AOB Med Spa throughout the process! This week Catherine is writing about her first HydraFacial treatment that included a Vortex-Peel.

I have seen an incredible transformation in my skin so far over the last several weeks since my first chemical peel with Shanna as part of my Peel to Reveal series.  For my second treatment, I wanted to try something a little different.  AOB Med Spa recently started performing HydraFacial treatments and after hearing about them from several people I thought it would be a great next step, especially because it includes a peel in the process.

A HydraFacial treatment is an effective way to improve your overall skin health but it can also assist in treating specific skincare concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, firmness, texture, tone, and hyper-pigmentation to name a few. The treatment itself takes the client through multiple steps including cleansing, exfoliation and extractions to remove impurities and dead skin cells while at the same time replenishing nutrients.  Depending on your specific skincare concerns, you can adjust the treatment to target specific problems.

For this treatment, I saw Chloe at the AOB Med Spa – Highpointe location.  She walked me through what the different steps of the treatment would be and then got to work on my face!  The vacuum-like tip was able to extract my facial impurities in a quick efficient manner. The treatment also includes a peel, which aided in removing any dead skin and stimulating regrowth.  My peel was 7.5% Glycolic and 2% Salicylic.  Chloe then infused my skin with a serum that contained antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid.

Antioxidants are used to revitalize and protect the skin after dead skin is removed during the first part of the treatment.  Peptides assist in collagen and elastin production which help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Hyaluronic Acid is used to hydrate your skin deep beneath the surface which gives the skin a life in volume and fullness.  Hyaluronic Acid is naturally produced by the body and is an important addition to include in your skincare routine to avoid losing the elasticity of your skin.  It helps to keep the water in your skin, therefore helping in the transportation of nutrients to and from cells.

Hydration is essential in healthy skin and is a key component of this treatment through the use of serums.  The more hydrated your skin is, the easier it is for transportation of nutrients to occur and the removal of waste, which ultimately contributes to the health of your skin.

Over the last several months I have tried out several treatments and I have NEVER loved something as much as this.  The treatment is quick – you can be in and out within 50 minutes (usually less time) and the results are fantastic.  Any blemishes that were on the surface of my skin have disappeared and I’ve had several people tell me that my skin has never looked better.  Most importantly my skin feels great and has NEVER felt so smooth.

This is a treatment that works well for all skin types and I highly recommend giving it a try.  It is by far the single most effective skincare treatment that I have experienced to date.  If you are interested in receiving a treatment call AOB Med Spa (303) 305-4343 and we will set you up with a complimentary consultation at one of our 4 Colorado locations!

  • Meet Amy, Cancer Survivor & AOB Client

The following blog post was written by Catherine Moede, an AOB home office team member.

As we approach Breast Cancer Awareness month, I think it is important to remember and honor all cancer survivors.  Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with AOB Client and two-time cancer survivor, Amy Kearney, to talk about the road to recovery and life after cancer.

Amy is 44 years old, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at her.  Amy is one of our All Over Beautiful clients who is athletic, strong and happy.  Amy has been a client of AOB Med Spa for the last year and a half and sees Karen at our Med Spa in Lone Tree location.  Amy originally came into AOB for a Microdermabrasion treatments treatment and after her first few visits she felt comfortable with Karen and confident in the results she started to receive. She has been a loyal client ever since.

When Amy was 29 she experienced her first bout of cancer in her ovaries and uterus.  After surgery and chemo, Amy was made a survivor for the first time.  Eleven years ago, Amy moved to Colorado and two years later, the day before her wedding, Amy got another round of bad news.  She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

When you go through something as life changing as cancer you start to prioritize your life differently. Skincare has become routine for Amy.  She explains that it is a big part of her life and something she has made a priority since her late 20’s after her first round of cancer.

“It’s like anything – you go for a run, you brush your teeth, it just becomes part of your life,” says Amy.

Routine skincare maintenance is important to having healthy skin and feeling beautiful.  This all over beautiful feeling is more than skin deep.  When we feel beautiful we act beautiful and are able to spread love and kindness to the people who surround us in our lives.

“Beauty comes from within, but you have one body and you have to care of it.  Exercising, eating well, taking care of your skin all contribute to making you feel beautiful,” Amy explained to me.

Amy strives to live a healthy life.  She describes her diet as clean and works out regularly.  In fact, before we met, she squeezed in a morning run and told me she is currently training for a half marathon this November.

Amy explains that the grass is not always greener on the other side.  Tough things happen in life, but you have to be willing to stick it out.  Amy fought through her cancer and has been there for multiple friends through their diagnosis, surgeries and recoveries.  “I have five girl friends that are breast cancer survivors.  I actually don’t know anyone else that has had any other form of cancer,” Amy admits.

Amy is strong.  Amy is healthy.  Amy is All Over Beautiful. This is a women that admits she’s rather spend her money taking care of her skin than buying a new pair of jeans.  Her sense of humor is evident and her story empowering.  A woman who has not only survived cancer twice but has learned to live to the fullest through it all.

AOB Med Spa is proud to support the American Cancer Society, Making Strides and all of the cancer patients and survivors out there by allowing each person to define their beautiful throughout their life journey.  That is why we partnered with ACS over the summer for Relay for Life and why we are continuing our partnership this October for the Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk in Denver.

If you would like to be a part of our team you can sign up in one of our centers or email or call 303.731.5452 us to sign up! There is a $20 registration fee that includes a Team AOB Making Strides T-shirt with proceeds going directly to Making Strides.  Additionally 10% of the proceeds from our pink m.pulse Day & Night Creams will be donated to the American Cancer Society between September 15 and October 15 in honor of our clients, like Amy, that are cancer survivors.

  • Skincare During Pregnancy

This week, we asked a member of our AOB family to share her AOB story with us. The following is written by Chloe Kirchner from the Highpointe Center. Chloe has worked for AOB for over two years and has been in the industry for 11 years.

To say that pregnancy comes with a lot of big changes is an understatement. In preparing to bring a child into this world, the body goes through several physical changes including the way our skin looks and feels. Throughout the duration of my pregnancy, I have had to alter my skincare routine to maintain healthy skin and to counter the skincare issues that popped up due to my pregnancy.

The most common skincare issues that I have seen in my skin and with most pregnant women are hormonal pigmentation or hormonal breakouts. This is a result of the hormonal imbalance that many people experience during pregnancy.

It is really important for pregnant women to cleanse their skin twice a day and drink plenty of water. With hormones constantly in flux during pregnancy, taking good care of your skin is really important for maintaining healthy skin. I recommend waiting on heavier exfoliations until the second trimester because the skin is much more sensitive during the first trimester.

Phloretin CF (SkinCeuticals) has been my go-to during pregnancy – it keeps everything under control. As an anti-oxidant, it helps to control and break up pigmentation in the skin. It’s something that you can use all over the face throughout the duration of the pregnancy.

Once you’ve given birth, it's time to treat yourself! I recommend getting a dermaplane and a facial to celebrate bringing a new life into this world! After you have finished breastfeeding, you can go back to your normal regimen and start to really correct your skin from serious hormonal influx. A hydrafacial or photofacial are great options for you at this point!

And, let's not forget CoolSculpting®, which may help you reduce of any unwanted body fat post-baby! CoolSculpting® is a great option for helping mothers get their body back after giving birth using cutting edge technology. CoolSculpting® freezes your fat cells away and many clients have seen incredible results throughout the several weeks following each treatment.

  • Meet Chloe, Aesthetician at Highpointe

This week, we asked a member of our AOB family to share her AOB story with us. The following is written by Chloe Kirchner from the Highpointe Center. Chloe has worked for AOB for over two years and has been in the industry for 11 years.

Education is essential in all aspects of life from formal schooling to being educated on the products you buy and use.  Think about the choices you make when buying a new laptop or phone.  Most people like to research the quality, the capabilities and the cost before making a decision on what product to invest in.  We have to start thinking about skincare products and treatments in a similar way.  It is important to understand the ingredients that make up our skincare products and the benefits that a skincare treatment can have on our skin.  A huge part of why I love my job is that I love training and educating both staff and clients about skincare.

I have worked in the skincare industry for 11 years and have been with AOB Med Spa for the last 2.5 years.  I initially got into the industry because I was interested in makeup, however, through my training in school, I realized that skincare and aesthetics are where I can make a bigger difference in someone’s life.  I love working with a client from treatment to transformation in order to get them the results that they are looking for.  It’s an amazing feeling to see a client’s confidence grow as they start to see real results.

One of my favorite treatments to perform is microneedling.  It helps to enhance the fullness of the skin and provides collagen induction therapy, which will aid in the regrowth of the collagen providing a tightening of the skin.  It is very successful in treating a variety of skin issues such as fine lines and melisma.  As we near the end of the summer, it is a good time to start thinking about this treatment, as the fall is the best time to get microneedling.

I am an expecting mother and am really excited to welcome my little one into this All Over Beautiful world!  Just like my mother taught me how to take care of my skin and I am really looking forward to doing the same with my little one when he or she arrives!  Everything works from the inside out.  What you put into your body dictates so much about your life.  Drinking plenty of water and eating healthy foods makes a huge difference in the condition of your skin.  If you want a healthy glow, you need to be working it from every angle.

All Over Beautiful to me is working hard, doing good in the world, treating other people with kindness, and putting out good into the universe.  You are what you preach.

  • Peel to Reveal!

The following blog post was written by Catherine Moede, an AOB home office team member and Denver transplant who spends countless hours outside. She enjoys running, mountain climbing and playing rugby with Black Ice Rugby here in Denver. Over the next couple of months Catherine will be getting chemical peels to help correct some of her sun damage and will writing about her experience at AOB Med Spa throughout the process!

I am 24.  I am an athlete.  I am at high risk for skin cancer.

Countless hours of my childhood (and adulthood) were spent outdoors.  During the summers, I split my time between the tennis courts and swimming pool every Monday through Friday. Despite my mother’s diligent sunscreen application, I was overexposed to sun and have a significant amount of sun damage for someone my age.

In the last several months I have taken a more active approach to taking care of my skin.  I recently got a Reveal photo taken that was able to show me what my skin looks like beneath the surface. A Reveal is a high tech facial imaging system and it is able to show you 3D images of sun damage and vascular damage beneath the skin. When I saw my reveal photo I was SHOCKED by the amount of skin damage that I have at 24.  It was certainly not what I was expecting.  With skin cancer running in my family, I am now more motivated than ever to protect my skin and get treatments to correct some of the existing damage.

After seeing the damage underneath the surface of my skin, I have decided to go through a series of skincare treatments that will help to correct some of the damage that has been done.  Over the next several months I will be getting a series of chemical peels and tracking my skin progress using the hashtag #Peel2Reveal.

I have never gotten a chemical peel before and even just the name sounds scary to someone who has always tried to go the all-natural route in terms of skincare.  However, after talking to my Aesthetician, Shanna at AOB Lone Tree, I have decided to give it a try.

I started out by getting a micro peel for my first treatment, which is a very light peel.  The peel is glycolic, which helps to hydrate the skin and is great for anti-aging.  As a light peel, the changes in the skin happen on a micro cellular level, which means that the visible eye may not be able to see the changes occurring.  The peel removes the dead skin and helps new skin come to the surface for an overall brighter look and feel in the skin.  This particular peel helps with anti-aging and hyper pigmentation.  It also smooths and brightens the skin.

During the treatment I felt heat on the surface of my skin as the chemicals worked their magic.  Immediately after the treatment, my skin looked a little pinker than usual, but I felt refreshed.

I was expecting to experience a very visible surface level peel, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  Because of the turnover of cells happens on a micro cellular level, and I had no downtime after the treatment!  This was great, especially because I had a date a few days later and didn’t have to worry about intense peeling.  In the days following the treatment my skin looked brighter and felt refreshed.  In a few weeks I am going back in for a follow up treatment and I am looking forward to getting my next peel!

  • Protect Your Skin This Summer

This week, we asked a member of our AOB family to share her AOB story with us. The following is written by Shanna Ruppert from the Lone Tree Center. Shanna has worked for AOB for just over two years and helped to open our Lone Tree Center!

Living in Colorado, my family loves to get out to the mountains. We enjoy camping, hiking and being outdoors as much as possible during the summer! Some of our best family memories involved spending time together in the Rockies!

I often tell people that 10 minutes in the Colorado sun is equivalent to one hour on the beach. Being at higher altitude in Denver, (and still yet higher in the mountains) we have a much greater need to protect our skin than people who live in many other parts of the country.

I recommend using a daily moisturizer with SPF and covering up with a big hat and large sunglasses. Pay attention to the way your skin feels, too. If you feel the heat on your skin, chances are you are getting burned. Even with sun protection, you are still getting plenty of sun, so it is much better to protect yourself from harmful rays with sunscreen.

AOB just started carrying the EltaMD line, which is amazing! EltaMD uses zinc oxide to provide true broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It is fragrance-free, paraben-free, AND non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog your skin or cause acne!! So whether you’re heading out to the mountains for a hike or cooling down at the pool this summer, make sure to bring that protection! Wearing sunscreen can significantly reduce aging! I’ve seen so many women that look several years older purely because they neglected to take care of their skin when they were younger or sat out in the sun too long. Wearing sunscreen, especially in Colorado is essential to avoid premature aging!

  • Dr. Jody Levine Discusses Latest Lip Trend

AOB's National Medical Director Dr. Jody Levine recently discussed the latest beauty trend - the "statement lip" - with ABC News's Genevieve Shaw Brown.

"Lip augmentation has certainly been on the rise as it appears that more and more beauty trends and celebrities are touting the statement lip as a fashion accessory," she said, attributing this trend with an ongoing desire to look and feel younger.
