  • Julie Bowen – A Fan of IPL Photo Facials! Photo Facials in Denver and Photo Facials in Dallas

In a recent issue of New Beauty Magazine, “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen revealed her secrets for beautiful skin. While her perfect, alabaster complexion can be partially attributed to consistent use of sunscreen as well as results-oriented skin care products, she did reveal that regular IPL photo facials have allowed her to get rid of years of sun damage.

“I’ve done IPL to get rid of sunspots,” she told the popular beauty magazine.

Here at the AOB Med Spa in Dallas as well as medical spas in Denver, IPL photo facials are extremely popular for reducing sun damage like Julie’s former freckles. Our clients are amazed that they can remove years – even decades – of unsightly sun damage, and all with no downtime!

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and is a form of laser skin rejuvenation. It works by emitting laser light energy over the surface of the skin. The excess pigment within the skin is absorbed by this energy, reducing it over time. IPL treatments are typically completed in a series for this reason, though dramatic results can often be seen soon after just one treatment.

In addition to reducing sun damage, IPL is a extremely effective for treating rosacea, broken capillaries, spider veins of the face, liver spots, age spots and more. Here is what one recent AOB Med Spa IPL client had to say about their experience: “I visited .pulse for a session of 3 IPL facials…I was so pleased with my experience and will definitely go back for any future beauty needs.  My appointments were with Seabron, a fantastic aesthetician!  She was knowledgeable and detailed when it came to my treatment plan.  My treatments gave me great results with little side effects, so I feel like it was tailored just for my skin.  I looked forward to my visits and will return for a touch up!”

  • Acne, Rosacea, and Brown Spots: 3 Common Skin Ailments and How to Treat Them

Skin issues in Denver and Dallas vary greatly from person to person, which is why AOB Med Spa believes that a personalized treatment plan is the best way to get amazing results.

But, there are some common skin ailments like acne, brown (or liver/sun) spots, and rosacea that affect a large percentage of the population.

The good news is that these conditions can all be treated in Denver and Dallas. So what’s the best way to get results?

Acne is the number one skin complaint in the United States. 80% of adolescents and young adults suffer from it, and it can also continue into adulthood or appear as late on-set acne.

    What causes acne?

    • A change in hormones can trigger oil glands and cause excess oil production.
    • That excess oil traps surface skin cells that would normally be able to slough (shed) off.
    • This creates an environment that attracts a bacteria called p. acnes.
    • With the introduction of that bacteria to your skin cells, the body’s immune system reacts, which is what causes inflammation – a.k.a. zits.

    What can you do?

    • MYTH: Just let acne run its course. This approach can lead to dark spots and scarring later in life and prolongs the amount of time an individual must suffer both the physical and emotional toll acne can create.
    • INSTEAD: Treat your skin regularly with acne fighting products like those in the SkinCeuticals Adult Anti-Acne System. A routine that includes washing your face mornings and evenings and treating with topical products that contain acne fighting ingredients is key in improving acne problems.
    • NO POPPING! Picking at acne and popping zits is what primarily leads to acne scarring. Plus is can make the issue even worse by spreading the acne-causing bacteria to other parts of the skin, causing more breakouts - so hands off!
    • FOR AN ADDED BOOST: Some skincare treatments can also give you an upper hand in the fight against acne.
      • Chemical peels like AOB Med Spa’s Alpha Beta Peel can help to clear pores and fights the production of excess oil with no downtime.
      • IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Acne Therapy treatments are also highly effective because they target the acne causing bacteria as well as the overactive oil glands.

The best approach to treating acne is a combination of the tips above. A licensed skincare professional like AOB Med Spa’s Aestheticians can help create the best plan for you combining the power of customized treatments and products for at-home care.

Rosacea before (left) and after (right) a series of IPL treatments

14 million Americans live with Rosacea, a condition which typically affects those ages 30-50.

    What is it?

    Common Symptoms Include:

    • Redness on the nose, forehead, chin, and cheeks
    • Pimple-like bumps
    • Surface blood vessels
    • Watery and/or irritated eyes

    What can you do?

There is no cure for rosacea, but these tips can help you manage the symptoms:

    • Avoid triggers like sun, stress, and certain foods and beverages (varies individually)
    • Use skincare products that will sooth and protect sensitive skin like SkinCeuticals’ Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 30 which uses zinc oxide to provide sun protection and is free of other chemicals commonly used in sunscreens that could irritate skin affected by rosacea.
    • IPL (Intense Pulse Light) skin rejuvenation and photo-facial treatments target the surface blood vessels, reducing the appearance of redness and giving the skin a more even tone.

Also known as liver spots, this discoloration of the skin is not actually caused by the liver or aging at all.

    What are they?

The most accurate term is sun spots, as they are actually the visible signs of sun damage, which is why you may begin to notice them more after extended exposure to the sun.

    What can you do?

    • Use topical products that can lighten the existing pigment and protect against future damage. SkinCeuticals’ Advanced Pigment Corrector is an ideal product for combating this stubborn skin issue.
    • Chemical peels like the Pigment Balancing Peel offered at AOB Med Spa combines high-performance brightening and anti-inflammatory agents with a peeling acid solution to accelerate cell renewal and even the skin’s tone.
    • IPL (Intense Pulse Light) skin rejuvenation and photo-facial treatments are very effective for removing brown spots and creating an even complexion on not only the face, but the chest, neck, back and hands.

  • Perfect Girl's Night Out

My friends and I have a time-honored tradition of a monthly girl’s night out. Since we are all Moms in our late 20s, it gives us a chance to escape from the kids, gossip about our husbands and relax.

We are always looking for something fun to do other than the traditional “chick flick” or bar scene. Two months ago we went to a painting class … our pictures were so bad you wouldn’t even want to hang them in your bathroom! But last month I found the ultimate m.azing pampering experience for us all … a Glow and Tell party at m.pulse! My six friends and I piled into my SUV (cliché isn’t it?) and headed for the Denver m.pulse IPL center (there are six locations in Denver and two in Plano).

As a busy Mom, I barely have time to wash my face, let alone have a skin care regime!

Our adventure started with an instant m.pact facial which in itself was heaven … the skin cleansing plus the steam towel plus the moisturizer. .. you just kinda sink into the chair. And your skin feels so smooth it is unbelievable! Then we each had an IPL photo-rejuvenation treatment which helps with fine lines and wrinkles… I have some frown lines that I can definitely attribute to my two-year-old!

All while we were munching on snacks, drinking these amazing mocktails  and giggling like little kids.

To be honest, I had never heard of IPL… I’ve heard of Botox, but the thought of injecting a toxin into my system just scares the beejesus out of me. And a face lift? Sounds great, but who has the time or money?  IPL is a simple, safe treatment that uses pulses of light to get rid of the redness in your skin or the broken capillaries. And who doesn’t have those after years of tanning booths and baking in the sun without lotion? At first I thought it would hurt, but to be honest, it tickled!

I was skeptical of the results … we did it more for the experience than the outcome. But you could really tell the difference in our faces after only one treatment … we looked a little … well fresher. The estheticians (or Luminologists as they call it) were a fun group and really knew their stuff. But most importantly, we felt better about ourselves, because we had done something to spoil ourselves.

The Glow and Tell party lasted about 2 hours and only cost $89/apiece – a small price to pay to feel a little younger. And, as the host, I got half off of my entrance! Go ahead and put your best face forward on Girl’s Night by scheduling a Glow and Tell party!

  • The New Skin Revolution – Photo-rejuvenation

When you look in the mirror, does your skin have a healthy glow? Or, is it riddled with acne, fine lines, age spots, spider veins and more?

There are many treatments out there today to help you achieve younger looking skin. Many are too expensive (a face lift), too intrusive, or only produce short term results. We’ve all heard about microdermabrasion, Botox, chemical peels, skin resurfacing and more.

As you consider your skincare options, photo-rejuvenation from m.pulse should be on the top of your list. Photo-rejuvenation (or skin rejuvenation) from m.pulse uses a revolutionary technique called IPL.  IPL pulses light into your skin, heating it to target the unwanted browns and reds, fine lines and age spots.

The photo-rejuvenation treatments take less than 30-minutes, have no side effects, and are virtually painless. You can go out to lunch or back to work right after and no one will be the wiser!

It generally takes six treatments to achieve optimal results, even though you’ll see a remarkable difference after one IPL skin treatment. And, the best part? It’s affordable and effective! Each photo-rejuvenation treatment is priced at $80 – you’ll get a Fifth Avenue glow at Main Street prices!

The treatments are delivered by our professionally trained Luminologists to ensure your safety. To enhance your skincaretreatments, m.pulse carries a line of all natural skin care products to hydrate and illuminate your skin.

With m.pulse, it’s all about enhancing your personal image.  Helping you feel your best. And boosting your self-confidence with skin that glows.

We encourage you to try our photo-rejuvenation IPL skin treatments. You’ll find the results … m.azing!

  • IPL Skin Treatments are Changing the Faces of Men and Women

First of all, let’s talk about what IPL is exactly. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and is a process that uses pulses of light and heat to penetrate skin in specific areas to treat a variety of conditions or skin problems. IPL helps to reduce aged or tough looking skin, by reducing the appearance of fine lines. It can also improve areas with blemishes, heavy acne, and diminish pore sizes, as well as remove unwanted or embarrassing hair by inhibiting hair growth. Both men and women who are fighting ageing skin, skin conditions, acne or stubborn hair growth use intense Pulsed Light treatments. IPL can be used on various parts of the body, for instance, the neck, chest, face or even your hands.

After an IPL treatment, (which normally takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes), your skin tone will look and feel fresh, bright and healthy. At m.pulse we offer a variety of processes using IPL; hair removal, photo-rejuvenation, acne therapy, pigmentation and vascular therapy.

Hair removal: m.pulse’s IPL hair removal treatment works to reduce unwanted hair in a safe and effective manner. Our process uses what we call, “selective photothermolysis,” which produces pulses of light targeting the melanin in hair.  The melanin absorbs the light, which then turns to heat and kills the growth cells, preventing or reducing future hair growth.

Photo-rejuvenation: IPL photo-rejuvenation’s overall result is to replenish a healthy glow to your skin and produce a fresh, clear complexion. As your skin ages, it produces uneven skin tones, ageing and sun spots, due to lack of skin flexibility, which is what makes our skin look dull and tired. Photo-rejuvenation uses pulsating light directed at uneven pigmented areas on your face, then turns to heat, resulting in an even skin tone throughout, as well as giving you a refreshing healthy glow.

Acne Therapy: We’ve all been there before. Embarrassing acne we just can’t seem to get rid of.  Our IPL acne therapy treatment helps to reduce and remove acne not only on the face, but on the back, chest and shoulders as well. Technically, acne is caused by a build up of bacteria and infection within your pores. IPL acne therapy focuses on destroying that bacteria with pulsating light, and also improves acne scars, by replenishing healthy skin cells, destroying the old dead cells, and smoothing out the scarred skin.

Pigmentation and Vascular Therapy: Over the years, we gain those dreadful sunspots, age spots, and heinous spider veins. These are all vascular issues of the skin, meaning that inflamed blood vessels or large amounts of blood vessels start surfacing through to the top layer of skin. Our IPL system distributes pulsating light into the blood vessel, where the light and heat is absorbed, forcing the vessels to withdraw back down in to the body, or flake off of the skin, making the spots or veins practically undetectable, if not completely invisible.

IPL treatments are becoming more and more popular among both men and women, whether it be to correct ageing skin, remove unwanted hair, or to treat a specific skin condition, it’s no longer considered or targeted only towards women. IPL is for a variety of ages and both genders. So what are you waiting for? Get your confidence back, as well as your healthy, glowing skin. • Tips for Skin Care to Improve the Quality of Your Skin

Your skin can tell you a lot about your body and its health. So, what are you eating? How often are you exercising? Are you taking care of your skin daily? A credible, proven skin product can dramatically improve the quality of your skin, however, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and daily hygiene habits also play a tremendous role.

Diet: Fruits, veggies, fish and nuts are all full of nutrients and necessary antioxidants that help your skin stay healthy. Vitamin E and C (which can be found in most fruits and veggies) are vital for clear, healthy skin.  Fish and nuts contain Omega fatty acids, which help skin fight against age.

    • Skin friendly fruits: Tomatoes, kiwis, blueberries, (to name a few)
    • Skin friendly veggies: Sweet potatoes, leafy green vegetables like spinach

These skin friendly foods won’t aid your skin by eating them every now and then though. You must strive to eat them on a regular basis, especially for long-term anti-aging results.

Hygiene: Of course, eating a healthier diet will help to improve your skin, however, daily cleansing and moisturizing is also essential.  Oil build-up overnight and throughout the day causes pores to clog and bacteria to form, creating acne, enlarged pores and irritation. Washing your face morning and night washes away the oil build-up and bacteria, so skin is able to stay healthier and clearer. Make sure you’re using the proper cleanser for your skin, too.  If your skin is normally sensitive, dry, or extra oily, you’ll need a cleanser that focuses specifically on those skin issues. If your skin is very dry, try only cleansing at night to allow your natural oils from your sleep, last throughout the day.  Don’t forget to moisturize!

Most importantly, you always want to protect your skin. Sun block, sun block, sun block. We know having tan skin is beautiful and incredibly tempting, but it won’t help in the long run, especially if you’re trying to avoid fine lines, wrinkles and sun spots. Plus, you can still use sunscreen and get a good tan or sun-kissed look, if you just absolutely must have that summer glow.

At m.pulse, we have formulated all-natural skincare products with a world-renowned chemist, for both men and women. For more information on our high-performance products visit our skincare page or come in and have a skin care treatment!.
