  • 4 Reasons to Wear Sunscreen Every Day

    Elevation

With Denver's elevation at 5,280 ft we are a LOT closer to the sun than our friends at sea level.  This means the suns rays are much stronger and more powerful in Denver.  Applying sunscreen in the morning and throughout the day is vital to protecting our skin!

    Avoid Awkward Tan Lines

Are you an active Coloradan?  Hiking, biking, and trail running are all fun spring and summer activities but the tan lines from our athletic clothes are not.  When you are on the mountain, you are EVEN CLOSER to the sun than when you are in the city.  Lather on some sunscreen so you can trail run or mountain bike without worrying about how your tan lines will look at your sisters wedding.

    Anti Aging

We say it again and again but wearing sunscreen helps reduce the risk of premature aging of the skin.  Weather it is mid-April, December, or July taking care of your skin year around is important to minimize your aging and keep you looking young!

    Avoid Skin Cancer

We all think it won't happen to us but skin cancer is a reality for many people.  Even though the sun is most harmful to us during the peak hours or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. any exposure to sunlight during the day can be harmful to our skin and can contribute to skin cancer later in life. This same principle holds true for sun exposure during off peak months like November - April.  Even on a cloudy day, you can still be exposed to harmful rays.

    Better Sunscreen Options Available!

At AOB Med Spa, we pride ourselves in offering great sun protection solutions. We carry several zinc based formulas from brands like Elta MD, SkinCeuticals, Obagi and IS Clinical.  Zinc and titanium dioxide act as a physical block against harmful UVA and UVB rays.

  • Detox Your Life!

Most of us concern ourselves with what can we add to our lives to add value to our health and happiness. However, doing just that can make daily living overwhelming and almost impossible to maintain. The best strategy to maintain a happy and healthy life often comes from what you choose to eliminate, purposely creating a simpler way of life.

It would be easy to provide you with a list of ways to “detox” your life, but those ways may not fit into your life or your daily routine.  Therefore, prior to detoxing your life, decide on a few things that can easily be eliminated and go from there.  The simpler you start, the more likely you will continue with this process.  For example, a goal of yours may be to eliminate all chemical products from your household.  Although cleaning products are a likely culprit, so too are hair and skin products. Or did you know that the average American sends three pounds to the landfill each day? Imagine if you could cut down on your garbage.

As much as we concern ourselves with what we put on our body, we worry about what goes in our bodies even more. You can constantly read about the next best thing to eat.  There are always articles providing us with foods that keep us young and feeling healthy.  Don’t get me wrong; it is a wonderful idea to add such foods to your diet.  However, many of you could take a look at what you already eat and simply eliminate some foods instead of adding an overwhelming amount of others.  If you notice your refrigerator is full of bread, bagels, pitas, buns, pasta, etc, then I would dare you to eliminate some of these breads and lower the amount of carbohydrates in your kitchen.

Detoxing your life is like going on a diet.  If you rush into it and start out too strict you may burn out and lose site of your goals.  Take the time to figure out what you could easily eliminate from your life that is causing bad health, distress, or simply an unfriendly feeling.  As you start to feel good, the eliminating process will become easier and this is when you move to the harder detox items.  Remember, living simple equals living healthy.

  • The New Favorite Beverage of Americans – Water!

What is the favorite drink of most Americans?  With all the hoopla going on in New York about large cups of sugary sodas, you would think it was Pepsi or Coke.

You would be wrong. America’s love affair with soda (you may call it pop depending on where you live) is over. And in its place? Good old water.

For more than twenty years, soda was the reigning King of drinks with per capita consumption being 54 gallons a year, according to Beverage Digest. In 1998, the average American was drinking only 42 gallons of water.

Maybe it’s because the obesity rates have skyrocketed. Or, we finally realized that drinking water can improve our health. Whatever the reason, the tables have turned. Americans now drink an average of 44 gallons of soda a year, a 17% drop, and have increased water consumption by 38% to about 58 gallons a year.

How times have changed. People used to drink tap water – now bottled water comes in hundreds of varieties. Whether Deep Rock, Perrier or Fiji is your favorite, people drink 21 gallons of bottled water a year compared to 37 gallons of other water – tap, sparkling or flavored.

Even bottled water is not without its controversy – the plastic bottles are not environmentally friendly. According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the good news is that bottled water drinkers are among the best beverage container recyclers, with 32.25 percent of plastic bottles recovered through curbside programs in 2010. That’s a 50% increase in the past five years.

At m.pulse, we’ve long known the benefits of drinking water to your skin, which is your body’s largest organ. As skincare experts, we know that water helps to moisturize your skin and increase its elasticity, and replenishes skin cells and tissues. Think of it as nourishment for your skin.

That’s why when you have an IPL treatment at m.pulse, you are always greeted with a refreshingly cool bottle of water. Whether you’re having a photo-rejuvenation IPL treatment or an Instant m.pact facial, water plus our effective skin treatments will leave your skin glowing and more supple.
