  • 10 Ways to Grow Longer, Stronger Hair

Spring is just around the corner, and one of this season's hottest hair and beauty trends is unsurprisingly long hair. It's the trend that never goes out of style, and we all know why. Long hair is beautiful, it's fun and it something to appreciate. Because long hair isn't just something that happens overnight – it's a process.

If you have long hair and you're trying to get it back to being healthy, or you're trying to grow your hair out for spring and summer, we have a few helpful tips for you. Good luck with your 'do.

    1. Add a little oil. Whether it’s coconut oil or store-bought oil that you heat up, massaging your head with oil works wonders for your hair. It’ll make it look shiny, but it’ll also strengthen it, giving it power to grow.

    2. Drink a lot of water. You hear this a lot when you’re trying to get in shape, but water affects everything in your body. By drinking more, it’ll throw out those toxins that keep your body from being healthy, and it can even revitalize those hair follicles.

    3. Eat avocados. Avocados contain a lot of natural oil, which is good for your skin, as well as hair and nail growth.

    4. Don’t wash your hair everyday. Yes, you heard right. By washing your hair everyday, you’re giving your hair a workout, which can break and pull out more hair than you’d like to keep. It'll also allow your hair to continue to soak in those natural oils.

    5. Take biotin vitamins. For under about $5, you can pick up biotin at your local grocery store, which can help strengthen your nails and hair.

    6. Go natural. Your blow dryer, although effective, can be the worst thing for when you’re trying to grow out your hair. Like the sun is bad for your skin, the dryer is bad for your hair. Let it air dry and let those natural curls come out.

    7. “No Poo Movement.” If your mother always told you not to use cheap shampoo, she might be right after all. Cheap shampoo can actually strip your hair’s natural oils, making it weaker. A salon-quality shampoo is always better, but don’t forget the conditioner. This will protect against heat damage.

    8. Stop coloring your hair! You probably already know this one, but changing up your color so many times strips your hair down to a skinny strand that doesn't want to keep growing. It’ll eventually break off, making you have to start all over.

    9. Don’t get extensions. Hollywood loves its extensions. Sure, they'll give you the look of long hair, but chances are you’ll have to start all over when your hair is ripped out and looks like a hot mess. Skip the ‘stensions and let it grow on its own.

    10. Be patient. Hair doesn’t grow overnight. If you truly want a long hair look, you have to give it time. And don’t cut it off because you’re tired of waiting. Once you have long hair, you can maintain it. But cutting it and starting over will take a lot longer time. Trust us – we’ve been there.

  • 5 Makeup Products That Are Actually Good For Your Skin

At m.pulse, we know that you want to feel and look beautiful in your own skin. And whether you’re wearing makeup or not, you should also feel confident that your skin is being well taken care of.

A lot of makeup out there on the market today can clog your pores, irritate your skin, and really only cover up imperfections that your makeup might actually be causing. But there are also makeup products that help your skin heal, rejuvenate and get better over time.

Today, we’re showing you a few of our favorite makeup products that are actually good for your skin. Throw away the cheap makeup that will in turn make you spend more time trying to get your skin looking better, and switch to products that while you’re wearing them, can do a little magic.

5 makeup products that are actually good for your skin:

    Mineral Powder

Chances are, you’ve given mineral makeup a try before. Whether you’ve seen it advertised on TV and you had to try it, or you’ve seen it in your friend’s makeup bag and tried it on, it’s a popular item. Mineral powder is actually good for your skin because of how gentle it is. It can give you a soft glow without having heavy ingredients like parabens, binders, fillers, or synthetic chemicals.

Bare Minerals Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 is one of our favorites, because it can cover up any imperfections while also clearing them up. Plus feel protected against the sun with flawless coverage.

Mascara with B5 and Rice Bran

When looking for healthy makeup, it’s hard to find a mascara that has benefits. Mascara is thick, chemically and can irritate your eyes, but there are a few choices when it comes to beneficial mascara. Korres’ B5 & Rice Bran Mascara is proven to lengthen your lashes, while giving them proper vitamins to do so, not just more wax to make them appear longer. B-5 is a pro-vitamin that nourishes your lashes so that they can continue to grow and lengthen instead of crack and break.

    BB Cream

It seems that almost every makeup company these days has a BB cream. But the right one will actually do positive things for your skin, not just sound good. BB cream is a blemish balm, which will help clear up your skin with its soy complexes. Soy beans contain protein which enriches your skin, clearing up the bacterial and tighten the pores. Aveeno’s BB cream covers up blemishes, and it reduces them while you're wearing it. It also contains SPF 30 so that sun damage stays far away.

    Paraben-free lipstick

LORAC Lipstick Makeup has one of the leading natural lipsticks, and for good reason. When you look at the ingredients in lipstick, it might surprise you. Lots of wax, unnatural oils, dyes and chemicals are what’s in your usual stick, but LORAC has a line of health-conscious makeup products that work in your favor. This lipstick is paraben-free, has SPF 15, Vitamin E, and Olive Fruit Oil. Plus, it’s keep your lips moist while lasting for hours.

    Non-toxic nail polish

Nail polish is probably the last thing you'd think about when looking for natural makeup products, but have you ever thought about what's in nail polish? We're not saying that you'll be putting it anywhere near your mouth, but in fact some nail polishes could cause serious damage if you did. Scotch is a non-toxic, healthier alternative to the grocery store nail polish. It's also vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, fragrance-free, toxin-free, paraben-free, hypoallergenic and biodegradable. That doesn't mean you have to eat it, but let's just say that if it did get in your mouth, you wouldn't have anything to worry about.

  • m.pulse Guide: What to Wear to the Super Bowl

With Super Bowl Sunday coming up this weekend, we're sure that your outfit for the big day is the last thing on your mind. Instead, you're probably planning cocktail recipes and gathering ideas for snacks, but that doesn't mean you can't still look smashing when the Broncos and Seahawks go head-to-head.

Whether you're into sports or you go to Super Bowl parties for the social aspect, you don't have to dress down in order to fit in. Instead, dress the part while being fashionable.

To give you some ideas, we're showing you a few pieces that put together, would make a great Super Bowl party outfit. The key is to go simple without sacrificing style.

    the JACKET.

You can go casual while still having a couple of dressy pieces. But paired with the right accessories and a great pair of jeans, something like this Fayette Vegan Leather Jacket from Anthropologie can make you look casually professional and stylish.

    the JEANS.

Nothing says casual like a good pair of jeans. But instead of wearing a pair that are baggy and has holes like the men will probably wear, throw on some skinny jeans that will make you feel sexy, while not going overboard. These 1969 Always Skinny Jeans from the Gap are the perfect pair to help you feel and look your best.

    the TOP.

Don't worry about wearing a silky, dressy top just because you're wearing jeans to a party. You're about to dress this tee up with some serious jewelry and heels, so this won't lessen your look. This Leith Curved Hem Tee from Nordstrom is comfy and give you room to jump off the couch if you're the type to scream during the game.

    the SHOES.

Yes, there may be a football game on TV this Sunday, but you can still wear shoes without being considered "to dressy." Booties are the best thing to happen to the shoe industry in the past few years, because they're comfortable and still have that heel affect. These Steve Madden 'Panelope Booties'  are a cute, casual alternative to flats or tennis shoes. Leave those to the men.

    the JEWELRY.

Whether you're cheering on the Broncos or Seahawks, you can wear the team's colors without donning a uniform by wearing colored jewelry that matches the team colors. Wear this navy blue Kendra Scott 'Rayne' Stone Tassel Pendant Necklace for the Broncos, or this deep green Marcia Moran Gold and Gemstone Freeform Pendant Necklace for the Seahawks. Go team (while still looking fashionable)!

  • m.pulse Woman: What to Wear this Christmas

It's hard to believe that Christmas Eve is already here. You might be wondering about what you'll going to be making for dinner, what last-minute gifts you have to pick up, or how you'll keep any Christmas crisis' from happening, but we're here to keep your mind at ease to at least help with what you'll be wearing.

Instead of putting yourself last on your list of things to do, we've brought you a couple of ideas of looks you can rock this holiday. From Christmas Eve attire to what to wear tomorrow morning when the kids are opening their gifts, we've got you covered.

    Christmas Eve:

Free People 'Long Lace Babydoll' dress

You might think it's a little cliche, but it's perfect fashionable to wear red on Christmas Eve. You might be matching with everyone else at your Christmas Eve party, but at least you'll all be festive, right? We've found this adorable 'Long Lace Babydoll' dress from Free People and think it would be perfect to rock tonight. It's on-trend, will flatter any body shape, and you can chase after the kids or cook a meal in it. The lace is dainty to make you feel like the beautiful woman you are, and the color will make you stand out in a crowd of red.

    Christmas Morning:

Victoria's Secret 'Fireside Long Jane Pajama'

On Christmas morning when you want to open gifts in the most comfortable of pajamas, you don't have to go frumpy in order to be casual. If you're going to wear comfy, yet a bit baggy of pajama pants, wear a top that's smaller and flattering. You never know what photos you'll end up in on Christmas morning! We suggest a pajama set like this one from Victoria's Secret. It's comfortable, while not looking like an elderly woman that just rolled out of bed. The trend right now for pajamas is a bit like those long johns you wear under your ski suit.

To see this pajama set on Victoria's Secret, click HERE.

    Christmas Day:

    Anthropologie's 'Corded Crossback Jumpsuit'

For Christmas Day attire, you don't have to wear a floor-length gown to dress up for the holiday. Stick to something simple like a jumpsuit. This one from Anthropologie is comfortable, while giving you a classic holiday look. Pair it with flats and bring along a cropped leather jacket. Don't worry about getting all glammed up, but throw on some lipstick, put your hair up, and relax while looking fabulous.

  • On the Pulse: 3 Fall Fashion Accessory Trends We Love

Grab that scarf and those boots; Fall will be here before we know it! You know what that means? It’s time to get Fall clothes ready, and breakout those favorite Fall accessories! In case you haven’t yet, check out some of this year’s hottest Fall accessories; here’s a few of our favorites that we’re looking forward to sporting:

    1. Boots that are made for walking. This Fall, it’s all about high boots. We’re not talking about just any boots; think high boots, like really high. What we love most about these boots is that you can work them into just about any outfit. Slip them on over skinny jeans, or pair them with long or short skirts, maybe even throw on some knit stockings to ad a little layering, (also “in” this fall), and strut your stuff!
    2. taste of color. This fall there are a few colors and patterns we are beyond excited to wear! However, we have to remember not to go overboard; it’s all about subtle pops of colors and prints. Emerald green and charcoal or slate are two of our fall favorites. Try an emerald green embellished necklace, clutch purse, or charcoal scarf or hat to top off an outfit. Moving on to our favorite Fall prints we’re most looking forward to wearing: houndstooth, (tweed or knits), and leopard print. We love both of these prints because of their diversity and flexibility.
    3. If your style is more on the conservative trendy side, houndstooth is going to be your BFF this season. Try a blazer, jacket, clutch or belt. Houndstooth is flexible for work or casual outings since it can be dressed up or down. So, what if your style’s a little more edgy? Say hello to leopard print! But hey-don’t just go for the plain black and white print; this fall it’s all about different colored leopard prints. We’re talking purple, pink, orange, green-the sky’s the limit! We’re thinking a cute blouse, heels or clutch would rock an outfit just right.

Get some hat hair. Break out your beanies, (preferably knit), and pair them up with almost any casual fall day outfit. To mix it up a little, we also love fedoras, baseball caps, and floppy knit hats. We’re thinking a fedora with either houndstooth or leopard print; or maybe sport your favorite football team with a baseball cap. If you’re feeling tired of your beanie, switch it out for a floppy knit hat, (maybe that emerald green we love so much), and keep your casual outfit fresh.

Right behind summer, fall is one of our favorite seasons! Bring on the hot chocolate, hayrides, bonfires, football games and of course, beautiful skin! But don’t forget these perfect fall accessories before you head out the door.
