  • Introducing the Newest Filler Technology: Volbella

At AOB, our goal is always to work with our clients to meet their goals while creating natural-looking results. So when we learned about the newest technology for lips that is designed create a soft, natural look that lasts longer, we jumped at the chance to offer it to our clients.

This great new product, Juvederm® Volbella® XC, made Elle’s list of Top 5 Beauty Breakthroughs for 2016, and it’s no wonder! The lip filler is designed to increase lip fullness and soften perioral lines through one year after treatment. Volbella® XC is also the first and only product approved by the FDA to erase laugh lines, the creases that form at the sides of the mouth, which are more pronounced when you laugh.

    A Longer Lasting Formula

Like most fillers on the market today, Volbella® XC is comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), a molecule that occurs naturally in the body. HA works to keep every aspect of your skin stable and renewed. However, it decreases over time and it’s necessary to use fillers in order to replace the HA and reduce the appearance of aging.

That said, while HA fillers are great for anti-aging, they’re also nothing new.

So what got Volbella® XC on the list of beauty breakthroughs?

Volbella® XC is unique in that it’s formulated with Vycross technology.

HA can basically be divided into two categories: high and low molecular weight molecules. Low molecular weight molecules are more desirable in cosmetics since the smaller molecule is able to better penetrate the skin, yet has the same ability to hold moisture as the high weight molecules.

Vycross technology uses 90% low-molecular-weight HA and only 10% high-molecular-weight HA to improve the cross-linking efficiency of the HA molecular chains. (To put this into perspective, traditional fillers are comprised of 100% high-molecular-weight HA.) Cross-linking, where bonds are added between the molecules, has been proven to increase the longevity of fillers, which is why Vycross products are long-lasting.

Vycross technology is patented by Allergan and can only be found in Allergan products.

Now, we know that was a whole lot of science to take in, so let’s skip straight to the results…

    Benefits of Vycross Technology

    Smoother Application

Because the molecules are smaller, the Volbella® XC filler flows easily and integrates more fully into the skin. This means you’ll easily be able to achieve smooth, natural-looking results.

    Long Lasting

In order to establish the effectiveness of Volbella® XC for improving lip fullness and smoothing lines around the mouth, 168 people were treated with Volbella® XC and 56 were treated with another filler. A 5-point scale was used to evaluate the effectiveness of Volbella® XC for lip enhancement and a 4-point scale was used to evaluate how effectively it smoothed lines around the mouth.

Doctors reported that 80% of subjects had a 1-point improvement in lip fullness three months after treatment and 62% had at least a 1-point improvement one year after treatment. Doctors also reported that over 60% had at least a 1-point improvement in the appearance of lines around the mouth after treatment.

90% of the subjects reported that they thought their lips looked and felt natural for one year after treatment. Approximately two-thirds of people treated with Volbella® XC showed improvement in lip fullness through one year.

    Comfortable plication

Volbella® XC is formulated with lidocaine in order to increase the patient’s comfort level during treatments.

    Why choose Volbella® XC?

The smaller HA particular size allows your provider to easily achieve natural-looking results when treating the fine lines around the mouth. The small size also allows for a subtle enhancement of the lips without concern that the lips will look overfilled.

Ellen Marmur, MD, an Associate Clinical Professor in the department of Dermatology and Genetics/Genomic Research at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, says "A longer lasting lip filler that does not look over the top, is the sweet spot that my patients have been looking for.”

Our own Sarah Dornik, RN, says, “Volbella is my favorite filler for vertical lip lines and lip structural support. Plus, it’s the longest lasting filler for the lips/lip lines!”

If you need even more convincing about how well Volbella works for subtle lip enhancement, we think these amazing before and after pictures speak for themselves.

    volbella before and after

After getting Volbella® for the first time, Lisa, one of our staff members, said, “For so many years my lip lines have bothered me. I am not a smoker and didn’t cause these lines by habit. For me to find a solution has been awesome. I’ve already seen improvement after one syringe and cannot wait for my full transformation.”

AOB prides itself on making sure that our clients lips look natural and proportionate to their facial features. We know that Volbella® XC is a great option for those interested in lip augmentation. • Biggest Beauty Breakthrough in 2016, CoolSculpting!

Elle magazine recently released their top five list of the biggest beauty breakthroughs of 2016. And there’s no arguing that technology is making some major advancements in the med spa industry! Patients are achieving the same great results from non-invasive procedures that, not so long ago, would have required surgery. Among Elle’s list of breakthroughs is the CoolAdvantage applicator.

What makes the CoolAdvantage breakthrough technology?

The CoolSculpting® technology has helped patients slim down without the sweat for years, but the CoolAdvantage applicator, launched in 2016 helps patients achieve results a little quicker.

CoolSculpting® treatments are designed to treat stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Clients love it because they can finally achieve the results they want without the invasiveness of surgery, which means little or no down time!

The process works by using an applicator to freeze targeted fat cells, which are then flushed through the lymph or lymphatic system naturally. Treatments last one hour, during this time clients can sit back, relax, work, or even take a nap. The procedure is safe, effective and lasting, since CoolSculpting® lessens the opportunity to gain weight in treated areas, as there are fewer fat cells.

The new CoolSculpting® applicator completes its cycle in just 35 minutes, making it possible to have your treatments done on your lunch break.

Like the other CoolSculpting treatments, clients will notice results in as soon as three to four weeks, with optimal results at 12 weeks. We also do an eight week follow up visit with photos to track their progress.

Annie Chiu, MD, an attending dermatologist at Cedar Sinai Medical Center, points out, "Non-invasive body contouring continues to increase in popularity, and we can really customize treatments now with a multi-modality approach including CoolSculpt for bigger bulges.”

Benefits of the CoolAdvantage CoolSculpting® Applicator

With this applicator, you can treat the abdomen, flanks and inner thighs, as it has three interchangeable contours. Clients also love that treatment cycles with this applicator are just 35 minutes long, the result of the revolutionary new cup design.

ZELTIQ, the maker of CoolSculpting®, modified the shape to make better contact with the skin and provide even colder temperatures. This allows clients to see the same great results in almost half the time.

Other benefits of this new beauty breakthrough include:

    • Increased comfort: clients report that the new cup design increases their comfort level during treatments
    • More tissue treated: the new CoolAdvantage design provides a larger cooling area, which means clients are able to treat more fat tissue during every visit. It even helps with fibrous tissue!

How to Get Even More from Your CoolSculpting® Treatments

Just as CoolSculpting® isn’t designed to help those who want to achieve massive weight loss, it’s also not a free pass to eat whatever you’d like and binge on Netflix night after night. If you want to achieve the best possible results you’ll still need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise on a regular basis, especially since exercise gets the lymph system moving and helps to release those fat cells quicker.

While we are not dieticians or nutritionists, we have seen that clients get the best results by eating whole foods like vegetables, fruits, and protein. We do recommend getting your doctor’s approval before beginning any new diet or exercise program.

What happens if you gain weight after CoolSculpting?

This is a question that often comes up for clients who are new to CoolSculpting®. While the treated cells are flushed out of your system for good, weight gain is still a possibility. However, if do you gain weight after your CoolSculpting® treatments, your body will continue to evenly distribute fat. One area will not typically become larger than the other.

If you think you’re ready to give CoolSculpting® in Denver a try, it pays to work with a provider who is both experienced and educated on the latest techniques and technology. All of our providers have been trained at CoolSculpting® University in addition to receiving additional continued education during their time at AOB. • 10 Tips for Glowing Skin This Winter

    Blog Image

When you think of winter in Denver, you think of skiing, snowboarding, sledding, skating, and a whole lot of snow! But as much fun as all those wintertime activities can be, there is one small problem: the havoc it can wreak on your skin!

The cold air can result in chapped, red skin on both your face and hands. And even if you choose to hibernate and stay inside, the heater is there to dry out your skin.

So what can you do to protect your skin? Take a look at these top 10 tips from our team below to help you achieve glowing skin this winter:

    1. Moisturize!

The moisturizing routine you used during the months probably isn’t going to cut it now that winter has arrived. Thicker moisturizers with peptides are a great choice, since they lock in your natural oils and help with anti-aging. If you have chapped skin, oil-based products are perfect for helping your skin to heal.  If you live in in a cold climate, we have a lot of great solutions to help with dry skin.

    1. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

One of the best parts about living in Denver is that there are outdoor activities all year long. However, people often don't associate the winter with sunburns and will neglect to put on sunscreen. With all of that snow reflecting back on your face you can get some pretty bad burns. Make sure that you're maintaining your daily sunscreen regimen all winter long and protect your skin against unnecessary sun damage.

A warm scarf is the perfect, stylish solution for limiting exposure to the sun and other elements.

    1. Avoid long, hot showers (or extended stays in a bath)!

We totally get it! Nothing feels better after a long day on the slopes than a long, hot shower – or an even longer soak in the hot tub. However, when the water is really hot, the water breaks down your natural oils, leaving your skin dry and dehydrated.

    1. Regular facials.

Regular facials are excellent for treating overexposed, dry skin. We’re particularly fond of the Hydrafacial since it both exfoliates and hydrates your skin.

    1. Exfoliate… but not too much.

Exfoliating is a great solution for whisking away those dead skin cells. Just avoid over-doing it. Once or twice a week is typically ideal for maintaining the benefits of exfoliation without drying out your skin, although it does vary depending on the type of exfoliator.

The m.merge Bamboo Face Scrub is great for gently removing dead skin and hydrating with coconut and bamboo powder. The IS Clinical ® Tri-Active Exfoliant is also a great option. It has peptides and is designed to smooth, brighten and soften your skin.

    1. Use a humidifier.

Designed to increase moisture levels by emitting water into the air, humidifiers can have an enormous impact on dry skin. They can help with more than just that, though. The National Institutes of Health recommend humidifiers for relieving the symptoms of the common cold, flu, and sinus infections, as well as dry nasal passages, cracked lips and nosebleeds from the dry air.

    1. Hydrate from within.

Because you don't perspire as much during the winter months, many people are often bad about drinking water consistently. Make sure that you're hydrating from within by drinking plenty of water. Also, eat foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that help to keep your skin stay well lubricated and maintain that youthful glow.

    1. Get your beauty sleep.

This isn’t your typical skin care tip; however, sleep is the best way for your skin and body to repair and regenerate. When it gets dark out, your brain produces more melatonin to make you tired. With shorter days during the winter, you may notice that you’re getting tired earlier than you do during the summer. Take a cue from nature and get to bed sooner. Your skin and your body will thank you, trust us!

    1. Add a serum to the mix.

Give your moisturizer some help by applying a serum beforehand. Serums deliver more advanced, concentrated formulas that your skin loves because they have a smaller molecular structure and are able to better penetrate to the dermis. Serums pack in beneficial ingredients like antioxidants such as pomegranate extract and vitamin C , which protect against sun damage and fight the free radicals that cause skin aging. Some serums also contain vitamin E as well as retinol, which is great for anyone with oily or acne-prone skin.

If you need a serum with antioxidants, the SkinCeuticals® CE Ferulic® is a great choice. This antioxidant treatment contains 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% alpha tocopherol, and 0.5% ferulic acid.

Because serums can penetrate more deeply than traditional moisturizers, they are able to deliver a high concentration of these active ingredients. This makes them a valuable tool for targeting specific skincare concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles.

If you’re looking for a good serum to help combat the winter weather, we highly recommend the Hydrating B5 Gel, an oil-free hydrating gel designed to restore moisture, or the 15% Professional C Serum from Obagi, which is excellent for fighting free radical damage.

    1. Repair summer damage (or prep for the summer).

Since most of us spend less time out in the sun during the cold, winter months, it’s a great time to take advantage of the treatments that you don’t want during “bikini season.”

For example, the winter months are the best time of year to remove pigmentation from summer damage. It’s also a great time to start laser hair removal treatments, since it’s most effective when your skin is lighter. Since it also takes multiple treatments to achieve the desired results, it’s best to start your treatments in the winter in order to be ready to hit the beaches by summer.

For even more tips, the U.S. National Institutes of Health has more on keeping your skin healthy.

If you’re still searching for the perfect gift for the holidays, consider giving the gift of beautiful . Not sure what your friends and family need? You definitely can’t go wrong with a gift card! From facials to CoolSculpting to laser hair removal to skin care products, we have products and services to meet the needs of just about everybody on your list. And the best part about a gift card? You know your friends or family are getting exactly what they want!

  • How to Get Rid of a Double Chin

If you do a search online for “How to get rid of a double chin,” you’ll find article after article that suggest quick fixes and exercises that promise to help you get rid of that frustrating fat under your chin. You may even see some websites that make recommendations for how to pose in order to reduce the appearance of your double chin (and if you love taking selfies that may be a great place to start).

If you are following a healthy diet regimen and exercise program you may see a decrease in submental fat (the fat underneath your chin), along with an overall decrease in fat throughout the body. However, the reality is that it’s unlikely that any form of exercise or diet can make a significant difference in the shape of your neck, as there is no such thing as “spot reduction” when it comes to weight loss.

    What causes a double chin?

Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of different things that can cause a double chin, and it’s not necessarily just being overweight. Genetics can actually play a big role, so if your parents have a double chin there’s a greater likelihood that you will have one as well. Rapid weight gain and weight loss can also cause a double chin.

Fortunately, there are a lot of options for people with double chins, several of which don’t involve surgery.

    Nonsurgical Options

For people who don’t want or need surgery, there are several great nonsurgical options.

Kybella® is an FDA-approved  cosmetic injectable that destroys fat cells. They are then flushed out of your body naturally in the 2-3 weeks following treatment. The best candidates for Kybella® treatments are those with good quality skin (i.e. still has skin elasticity) and a distinct appearance of fat under the chin.

Just like many cosmetic treatments, there is no such thing as a one size fits all. This means that the price will vary depending on the number of injections necessary to receive the optimum results.  Here at AOB we price per syringe and most clients will require one treatment of two syringes.

Clients who use Kybella® are having great success and satisfaction with treatments.  The woman pictured below received three treatments and saw a significant reduction in submental fat under the chin.

    kybella before and after 2

Visit MyKybella®.com for more before and after pictures.

Kybella® isn’t the only option for people who want to get rid of submental fat. CoolSculpting® is now also an option!

The CoolSculpting® treatment has been used for years as a way treat stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Up until recently, it was used to treat areas like the love handles, banana roll, distal thigh, abdominal fat and fat in the upper arms.

However, in the fall of 2015, the FDA-cleared the CoolMini, the CoolSculpting® applicator specifically designed to treat submental fat.

This treatment works in the exact same way as the other CoolSculpting® treatments, using controlled cooling to freeze fat cells below the surface of the skin (while the surface skin is left unharmed). Like Kybella®, the results don’t appear overnight. However, over the course of 3-4 weeks the body naturally flushes the fat cells out of the body. And also like Kybella®, once those fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good!

Take a look at the great results this patient had achieved by 12 weeks after her second CoolSculpting® treatment.

    coolsculpting before and after

Who are the best candidates for these treatments?

Kybella® is a great treatment for just about anyone. If you have submental fullness that you want to get rid of then you are most likely a great candidate for the treatment. CoolSculpting® for submental fullness is a great option for those who have a chin shape that allows the area to be fully treated by the applicator.

On most occasions, we recommend CoolSculpting® to clients who need to de-volumize the area while Kybella® is ideal for getting rid of stubborn pockets of fat.

Both treatments are great for candidates who need a spot reducing treatment.

While it’s true that neither of these treatments are effective when the patient has loose skin, we often encounter clients who THINK that the skin under their chin is loose, when in reality the fat pockets under the chin are just weighing the skin down and making it appear laxer than it actually is. Before ruling out one of these noninvasive options for getting rid of submental fullness, we would recommend speaking to a provider who can help you explore all of your options.

    Risks and Recovery

The great thing about the noninvasive treatments is that the risks are extremely low and the recovery period is fast. Many patients experience some swelling or bruising, which is why it’s advisable to allow yourself one or two days to recover.

Are you tired of your double chin?

If you are looking for noninvasive treatments for your double chin, AOB Med Spa offers both Kybella® and CoolSculpting® for submental fat. We would be happy to schedule a free consultation at our Cherry Creek or Lone Tree locations. Contact us today to schedule your consultation at 303-305-4343 or

  • What is the cost of Kybella?

Beauty treatments have come a very long way. Today, there’s an injectable treatment for just about any aesthetic concern you might have. Wrinkles or fine lines? Try Botox or a number of different fillers. Longing for lips with more fullness? Try Juvederm. Noticing extra chin fat? You guessed it, there’s a treatment for that too!

In April 2015, the FDA announced that it had approved the injectable, Kybella, for treating the stubborn fat deposits below the chin commonly referred to as the double chin. Those fat deposits are difficult, if not impossible, to treat with diet and exercise alone since it’s often caused by genetics, rapid weight gain.

Traditionally, surgical procedures like neck lifts and neck liposuction were the only option. Today, however, Kybella is a great solution for patients who want to avoid surgery.

    What is Kybella?

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule found in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat cells. When injected into the fat below your chin, the cells are destroyed and can no longer accumulate fat. While it goes to work right away, it does typically take two to three weeks to see results.

    What does Kybella cost?

The price of Kybella treatments are entirely dependent on the number of treatments and vials that are needed to get the optimum results.

At AOB, we find out our patients typically need one treatment with two vials per treatment, although the number of treatments may vary. We charge $599 for each syringe of Kybella, which means that for two treatments with two syringes you can expect to pay $1200.

While we realize that that sounds high, it’s important to consider that the results are permanent. This means that once you’ve achieved your goals you’ll never have to worry about the submental fullness returning.

It’s also important to keep in mind the cost, recovery and downtime associated with other surgical treatments. Kybella is a 30-minute treatment that you could squeeze in on your lunch break.

    The Value of Kybella Treatments

According to a survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 68% of people said they are bothered by their double chin. ASDS also discovered that people are just as bothered by extra fat under their chin as they are by wrinkles around their eyes.

Unfortunately, once submental fullness has occurred, it’s very resistant to diet and exercise and often results in a drop in confidence.

For clients who are tired of living with a double chin and want an effective, noninvasive solution for achieving a defined jaw, Kybella is a permanent solution!

Check out the results that some patients have had with Kybella.

    kybella results 1

This woman received a total of three treatments and weighed 135 pounds both before and after.

    kybella results 2

This woman received a total of four treatments and weighed 135 in her before picture and 140 when the after photos were taken.

Though the treatments are very safe, the greatest risks are actually associated with the skill of the person administering the injections. A skilled injector, however, will be able to minimize, if not eliminate, any risks.

Here at AOB Med Spa, we pride ourselves on having the highest trained staff and the best client experience in the Denver area. The injectors who perform the service are professionally trained medical staff who have extensive training and experience.

If you decide to come to AOB Med Spa, you will receive your injections from Sarah Dornik, RN. Sarah is a licensed Registered Nurse with 12 years of experience. She has completed intensive training for Cosmetic Injectables and is a graduate of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.

How does the price compare to liposuction?

While Kybella treatments are pricey, they are still cheaper (and much less invasive) than the more traditional treatment of neck liposuction.

With liposuction, you will encounter expenses for anesthesia, the operating room and any advanced technology they utilize to complete the procedure. Kybella treatments normally take under 30 minutes and you can return to normal activity with minimal down time (and we will do all we can to ensure your comfort while you are with us)!

And then there is your recovery time to consider!

While you will experience swelling in the 20-28 hours following your injections, the swelling from Kybella will have largely passed by 48 hours after the procedure. You can anticipate that if you are treated on a Thursday or Friday you will be back to work on Monday. This is a far cry from your recovery time with liposuction. After surgery patients typically can’t return to daily activities, including work, for two weeks.

    Looking for Kybella in Denver?

If you live in the Denver area and you’re interested in Kybella, contact us. During the consultation, we will be able to assess the area being treated to ensure you’re a good candidate, discuss you goals and recommend a customized treatment plan that will help you achieve your desired results.

    What is a banana roll?

  • Why I choose Bellafill® to treat the scars on my face

It seems silly that a small collection of scars could be the source of so much distress, but for me it was all I saw in photos and in the mirror for years.  When I was a child, I had the chicken pox and like most kids, I couldn’t resist the urge to pick at my skin.  Unfortunately, I had no idea that would leave me with scars on my face, the most visible part of my body.

A little over a year ago, I started to get MicroNeedling treatments to help reduce the appearance of scarring.  Although I did see some improvement in my skin, my scars were deep and I wanted to do something more.

I started researching other options and learned about Bellafill®.  Now, to preface, I am an all-natural kind of girl. I wear minimal makeup and when I am not working I am hiking, skiing, or running.  While I do care about my appearance, I have never considered receiving any kind of injectable treatment in the past, in part because of the negative stigma that surrounds the whole industry. I didn’t want to look like a Kardashian or look overdone.

Bellafill® seemed different from other fillers though.  For one, Bellafill® helps to replace lost collagen by working with your body’s natural process.  This comforted me A LOT as I didn’t want to look or feel fake in the process of getting rid of my scars.  Essentially, Bellafill® is made up of collagen and PMMA microspheres. The collagen gel provides immediate volume and lift while the PMMA microspheres bind with existing collagen to form a strong base for structural support.  In simple terms, Bellafill® is like a fertilizer that promotes collagen growth and the overall health of your skin as opposed to a filler which is temporary and fills empty pockets space.

Rather than being a temporary filler, Bellafill® has been proven effective with results lasting through 5 years, with many patients saying that the effects are permanent. The price per syringe is higher than most other fillers, but given the lasting results it is a much cheaper option for clients looking to treat acne scars or volume loss.

On Saturday, I came to AOB Med Spa and I got my treatment.  Although I had done my own research, my provider went over the treatment with me, explaining what was going to happen and how I would feel. My provider also answered any remaining questions that I had. Numbing cream was applied to my face to reduce any potential pain or discomfort and I was given stress balls to squeeze during my treatment.  Overall I didn’t experience much pain, just a small pinch and a bit of a weird tingle.

The treatment was quick and easy, and I was able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment.  When I got home, I immediately could tell the difference in the depth of my scars. They look shallow and are barely visible except under close inspection.  What is more amazing is that over time, my results will get better as the PMMA microspheres remain in place and create a base that provides critical structural support for my skin.

I can’t tell you how happy I am with my results and it’s been less than 48 hours!  I highly recommend coming in for a free consultation to learn more about Bellafill®! Give us a call at 303.731.2149 today to learn more!

  • Top 5 Causes of Adult Acne and How Can you Treat It

Acne is bad enough when you’re a teenager, but when you’re an adult, it can be just plain embarrassing. If this is you, you aren’t alone! According to, adult acne affects 25% of adult men and 50% of adult women at some point in their lives. And today, dermatologists are seeing more adult acne patients than ever before.

So what are the causes of breakouts in adults?

You would think that by the time you’re an adult, your hormones will have stabilized to the point that they would no longer cause acne. Think again! Fluctuation in hormones, like the one women experience before their menstrual cycle begins, is the main cause of adult acne. For men, it’s a fluctuation in male hormones, including testosterone, that typically cause acne. Men naturally secrete more of these male hormones. In addition, testosterone levels typically increase as a result of exercise, which leads to a greater likelihood men will develop adult acne.

This is likely why dermatologists are seeing more adult acne cases than in the past. Many women work full time while simultaneously trying to juggle raising kids and taking care of their families. They’re taking on way more than previous generations! In order to combat stress, the body makes more of the hormone cortisol. Unfortunately, during this process, a bit of testosterone leaks out with it, causing more oil to be produced and, inevitably, more breakouts.

    Too Much Sugar

Your sweet tooth could be impacting more than your waistline! Evidence shows that when sugar raises your insulin level, it boosts the male hormones that produce more breakouts. Do yourself a favor and stick to low-glycemic foods that cause a less significant insulin spike.

Using the Wrong Products or Using Them Too Frequently

Over-exfoliating or over-cleansing your skin can lead to breakouts. The same can be said of products that make skin oilier. The bottom line is that it’s important to know your skin and use the right products for the best results.

This is something most of us don’t think about affecting our skin. However, when you get home at the end of the day, wipe your face with a toner pad or face wipe and see what it looks like.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, approximately 83 million tons of pollution were emitted into the air in 2012. And that pollution isn’t just staying on the surface of your skin and coming off when you wash your face at night. The tiny particles are penetrating into deeper layers of the epidermis, causing inflammation and dehydration as well as a loss of elasticity and firmness.

And all this pore-clogging pollution definitely can lead to an increase in adults acne. Make sure you’re exfoliating regularly and helping your skin to repair itself by using a serum with antioxidants.

How can you treat adult acne?

Believe it or not, there are a lot of options out there for treating the tell-tale signs of acne. (There are even options for treating the scarring that can result from acne!) And it definitely isn’t necessary to rely on harsh products that rob your skin of moisture and leave your face dry and peeling for weeks.

Here are a few acne treatments we recommend to our own clients.

    Treating Active Breakouts

Most acne products on the market are designed to be applied directly to the surface of your skin. However, one of our favorite treatments for active breakouts is Skin Accumax, a supplement designed to clear up moderate acne from the inside out.

Skin Accumax contains a combination of vitamins and plant nutrients designed to address the underlying factors that cause acne. Also, while most products are designed specifically for the face, Skin Accumax can treat breakouts all over the body.

Skin Accumax is also appropriate for anyone over the age of 16, which makes it a great acne treatment for teenagers. Please do note, however, that women who are breastfeeding, pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this product .

The HydraFacial is another option, especially for someone with sensitive skin who wouldn’t be a good candidate for a chemical peel or micro needling. This non-invasive resurfacing treatment removes dead skin cells, leaving you with beautiful, fresh new skin! (It’s also a great solution for treating post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which we discuss in detail below.)

    AOB Acne Buster Facial

This facial is great for active breakouts as well as post inflammatory pigmentation. It’s specifically designed to treat your acne-prone, oily skin while improving hydration.

    Treating Acne Scars

Many adults who suffered from bad acne in their youth have scarring as a result. Luckily, there are treatments available for those individuals as well!

Bellafill is a phenomenal solution if you suffer from unsightly acne scarring. It is an injectable that is designed to add volume back into the pockets where you have scarring. What makes this product so unique, though, is that unlike most injectables, it’s been FDA-approved to last up to five years. (Some even claim that their results have been permanent!) Regardless, it’s a long-lasting solution to minimize the appearance of acne scars.

    Treating Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation, often referred to as PIH, is the medical term that refers to the dark pink or brown spots on your skin where the acne lesions have healed. Some people mistake this discoloration as scarring. PIH develops when a wound like a pimple causes your skin to become inflamed. As it heals, your skin produces too much melanin, the protein that gives your skin its color and the excess melanin causes discoloration that remains after the pimple has gone away.

So how can you treat PIH?

We have a LOT of options for treating PIH. For a full list of treatments for hyperpigmentation, visit our website. Below are a few that we commonly recommend for PIH.

    Micro Needling

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create microscopic wounds in the skin. This triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin to fill the wounds. While the idea of wounding your skin to improve its appearance may seem counterproductive, the procedure will improve both your skin texture and tone, reducing the appearance of PIH.

    Chemical peels

A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and peel off. The new skin is smoother and has a more even skin tone, making it a great option for treating PIH. We have a few options available for patients interested in chemical peels for treating acne.

    Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

This non-invasive laser treatment is a fantastic solution for reducing the appearance of acne scarring as well as skin discoloration from PIH.

    Final Thoughts

As you can see, there are a lot of different options for treating acne and the scarring or PIH that has resulted from breakouts. You absolutely do not have to accept your adult acne. If you are an adult (or even a teenager) who suffers from acne and you’re in the Denver area, schedule an appointment with one of our specialists to discuss your best acne treatment options.

  • How much does CoolSculpting cost?

Here at AOB, there’s one question we encounter almost every day: “How much does CoolSculpting cost?” It’s a valid question, but unfortunately it’s not one we can answer so easily. You see, there is no such thing as a one size fits all when it comes to CoolSculpting. We can’t even guess the number of treatments you will need based on the area you want treated or your desired results.

The reality is that the price can vary from person to person and is entirely dependent on body type and what the patient wants to accomplish. While we can typically give our patients a range over the phone, we cannot give you a final quote until that first face-to-face consultation.

But before we go any further, it’s important that you understand exactly how CoolSculpting works to help you better understand why there really is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all.

    How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is a targeted fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat cells. It’s commonly used to reduce the appearance of love handles, chin, abdominal fat, back fat, bra front fat, and fat in the thighs or upper .

Treatments are performed in “cycles,” with each cycle taking an hour. Keep in mind that the applicator can only treat the fat the can be pulled in between the cooling plates at one time. This means that if someone has a larger volume abdomen, it could take two cycles to sufficiently target the area. We do have larger applicators designed to cover more surface are that can help reduce the number of cycles.

For patients who want to treat love handles or their thighs, we offer dual sculpting so each side can be treated simultaneously in one hour. However, it’s all these different variables that make it impossible for us to give patients an exact estimate over the phone, because every body type is different and without seeing you we can’t know exactly how many cycles you will need.

More than that, though, every patient has different goals. If someone wants to really sculpt and achieve more of a transformation, they would require more cycles. On the other hand, if a patient just wanted to de-volumize they wouldn’t require as many cycles, which would mean the cost would be lower.

At AOB, we provide a customized plan for each patient. While this approach does make it impossible to quote an exact price over the phone, it does enable us to guide our patients to a treatment plan that will give them the best possible results, which is our ultimate goal.

    More Cycles = Bigger Results

While results vary from person to person, here are a few examples of people who have had great results from CoolSculpting. It will also give you an idea of the time that must pass before patients see significant results.

    What makes AOB different?

I’ll admit that we aren’t the cheapest location for CoolSculpting in Denver. We aren’t looking to cut corners to match a number. That said, we are competitively priced and we’re committed to providing the best customer experience and results.

    How do we accomplish this?

    Well I’m glad you asked!

The first thing we do is focus on the education of our providers. Each of our CoolSculpting providers has gone through the highest level of training possible at CoolSculpting University. Why? Because we want to make sure that none of those “CoolSculpting horror stories,” happen here at AOB (you know, the ones that show up when you ask Google about the risks of CoolSculpting).

Through education and training, we can minimize any of the risks that are associated with CoolSculpting.

We are also 100% committed to continuing education. That means patients who come to us can feel confident that their providers are not only knowledgeable and experienced, but also that they are using the newest and most effective techniques and tools to provide the best possible results.

Technology is changing every day so staying on top of all the new advancements is a big task, but it’s one we are committed to making for our patients.

AOB Focuses on the Customer Experience

As I said before, we may not be the cheapest location, but clients who come to us also know that they will have an overall experience that extends beyond the treatment, itself.

We don’t want our patients to feel like they are walking into a sterile, impersonal doctor’s office when they come visit us, so we created a boutique atmosphere that caters to the comfort of the patient.

During the hour with us, patients can watch Netflix, use our Wifi to work remotely, or just sit back and relax.

But we aren’t just committed to the comfort of our patients in the center. We also want them to be as comfortable as possible when they leave us, which is why we send them home with at home care kit as well as recommendations to help maximize their comfort levels and results.

    Final Thoughts

If you’re considering CoolSculpting, I encourage you to not make the price tag your most important factor when selecting a provider. Yes, it’s important, however, do you really want someone cutting corners when doing a cosmetic procedure?

    Probably not!

Do your homework. Make sure that the provider is committed to education and providing the highest quality service to patients. Read reviews online. Find out what training the provider has received and if they are doing any continuing education.

Remember, the CoolSculpting applicator works amazingly well, but if it’s in the hands of someone inexperienced you won’t get the results you want. Make finding someone who is educated and experienced your top priority. And if you’re looking for CoolSculpting in Denver, you can contact us at 303-305-4343 or We are happy to answer all of your questions and, once we meet with you, come up with a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.
